We started our day discussing what a good team looked like and creating our very own success criteria for teamwork. In maths, we learnt a new skill which was measuring perimeter of shapes and we were able to apply this skill outside on the playground. We also put our creative skills to the test out in forest school when we used natural materials to make a bird’s nest. We had to make sure it was stable enough to hold a small bird. We ended our fantastic outdoor learning with the Paris Landmark Challenge!!! The children were given only newspaper and […]

This week Year 3 experienced a library session with Mrs Ajmal. At Oak Hill we like to promote a love of reading and of books and this session certainly did that. Not all children have had the opportunity to visit a library outside of school so to begin with, the children were shown where the fiction and non-fiction sections are in our school library. We also talked about how the library is set up and how we keep track of all the books that come and go in and out of the library. Next, in pairs, the children had the […]
Year 3 have thrown themselves back into their learning after the Easter holidays and we have so much packed into our very short half term that we hit the ground running on our first week back. The children have been looking at plants in science and were given the statement: Plants can survive as long as they are given adequate amounts of liquid. The children discussed this statement and decided if they agreed or disagreed. In order to test this statement Year 3 set up a science experiment to give plants different types of liquid to see how they reacted. […]
What an end to our topic we have had this week!! The children have completed the models of their new homes for Persimmon. The children had to use their knowledge of maths by measuring 12 pieces of wood accurately to make a cube. They then used triangles of card to strengthen the wood at a meeting point. We discussed how Persimmon would also do this when building foundations and walls in homes. Their art skills were then required to design a roof and the front of their houses in order to include different features of buildings that we have been […]
On Thursday 28th March Year 3 had a very busy day with the outdoor learning. The weather was in our favour and it was fantastic to see the children enjoying their learning in the spring sunshine. There were many curriculum areas accessed throughout the day that allowed the children to have a wide variety of learning in a fun way. We used our knowledge in History, Maths, Science and English to enjoy the day. In science, we measured shadows ( when the sun came out) and studied forces by deciding which surface was best for a toy car to travel […]
