Father Christmas has been in touch again asking Year 3 to help him find some healthy snacks that he could eat. The children started to develop their cooking skills by making flapjacks, cheese straws, savoury couscous and fruit smoothies. We had discussions about the food that was going to be used and why the recipes were healthy.
Many skills were used to produce the delicious snacks. The children needed to follow a recipe, measure ingredients accurately, prepare the ingredients hygienically, develop cutting and chopping skills and learn how to clean down and tidy once the cooking was finished.
The best part of the cooking sessions were tasting the snacks afterwards. Children were asked to evaluate their work and explain what they would have done differently, maybe by using different ingredients for example.
Hopefully Father Christmas will enjoy making these tasty snacks as much as Year 3 did.
