Key Stage 1
The 2016 Key Stage 1 assessments are the first which assess the new, more challenging national curriculum. The expected standard has also been raised to be higher than the old level 2. As a result, figures for 2016 are not comparable to those for earlier years.
10% of schools were selected by the local authority to have their teacher assessments externally checked. We underwent this process 2 years ago and therefore like most schools we were not selected. This was the first year of the new standards and guidance from DfE was not in published until mid-year, training opportunities have been limited. Consequently, we opted to employ the services of external moderators in order to give some validity and credibility to our judgements.
The vast majority of schools nationwide have not been externally moderated and it is apparent that the knowledge and understanding of the new expectations is inconsistent.
