We have had 9 new additions to our Foundation Stage area this summer term – say hello to our newly hatched chicks!
The children have learnt that we have a mixture of hens and cockerels because hens are brown chicks and cockerels are yellow chicks. We enjoyed watching them hatch in the incubator and each child had the opportunity to hold one of them, choosing whether they wanted to hold a hen or a cockerel. They held it carefully showing concern for the health of the chick. Each child understood the need to wash their hands afterwards to ensure that they and the chicks remained healthy. In addition, the Reception children were excited to describe how the chick felt in their hands, many of them saying that it tickled them! They all enjoyed handling the chick, paying close attention to its needs.
What an exciting time in Early Years!
